The 40-year-old star will play Tom Hazard in the film adaptation of the forthcoming book "How to Stop Time" penned by Matt Haig, reported BBC.
The book will hit the shelves post July and Cumberbatch's production company SunnyMarch will produce the film with Studiocanal.
Talking about the inclusion of the "Sherlock" star in the project, Haig said, "The prospect of Benedict Cumberbatch playing Tom Hazard is a hugely exciting one and I could not be happier."
Cumberbatch will be next seen reprising his role as Dr Stephen Strange in the Marvel superhero movies "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Avengers: Infinity War", along with "The Current War" based on the life of inventor Thomas Edison.
