West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi today said that he had given "requisite advices" to the State Election Commissioner to see to it that the April 25 polls to 91 civic bodies in the state were held peacefully.
The governor's statement came in the backdrop of allegations by the opposition parties that the SEC had failed to conduct the Kolkata Municipal Corporation election freely and peacefully on April 18.
"I have told the SEC whatever I have to tell. I have given requisite advices to ensure that the coming election should be free and fair and it (SEC) should take all necessary measures," he told a news channel here.
The governor had yesterday summoned SEC S R Upadhyay and asked him to see that the civic poll on Saturday was peaceful.
After his meeting with Tripathi, the SEC stated that he had briefed the governor about the force deployment plan and other steps that the commission was going to take for holding the civic polls peacefully.
