"Today 25th December 2016 is the 155th birth Anniversary of Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya. He is one of those great sons of India, who were the standard-bearers of the spirit of Nationalism in pre-independent India," Tripathi said in his message released from the Raj Bhawan today.
"He was the founder-architect of the famed Banaras Hindu University. On this auspicious occasion I pay homage in his memory," he said.
Born on this day in 1861, Madan Mohan Malaviya was an educationist and politician who played a pivotal role in the Indian independence movement. He was twice the president of Indian National Congress.
