The visit of Kamduni protesters to Delhi to meet the President with a plea for speedy justice was criticised today by a state minister who said there was no such thing when a teenage girl Tapasi Malik was allegedly raped by CPI(M) leaders in Singur.
Drawing an analogy between the two rapes, transport minister Madan Mitra said, "In democracy everybody has the right to protest and visit the President. But when a small girl Tapasi Malik was allegedly raped by two CPI(M) leaders, there was no candle light vigil or visit to the President."
Addressing a rally here, Mitra pointed out that Mamata Banerjee had fought for justice in the Tapasi Malik murder case and in the Kamduni case too, a charge sheet was submitted within 22 days.
Villagers of Kamduni, who have been demanding justice over the gang rape and murder of a college girl, have reached Delhi to meet President Pranab Mukherjee on July 15 with a demand for speedy justice.
Mitra also expressed surprise over why former Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee stayed away from visiting Kamduni in North 24-Parganas district.
