"We are planning to issue licenses to traders and once we cover 80 per cent of the traders, we will scrap the check posts at regulated markets," agricultural marketing minister Arup Roy said here today.
He was speaking at an interactive session with members of Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
One regulated market for every 13,580 hectare in West Bengal.
Roy said the traders will have to submit returns of their business every fortnight to ensure the fee is collected.
State levies a fee on agricultural produce when the products are been brought to the market.
Traders complained multiple payment of fee when agricultural produce are been moved from one district to another.
"We have set a target of May 31 to register the traders, let see how things move," Roy said.
Speaking about plan to sell vegetables through mother dairy booths, Roy said the plan will will cover 1200 booths of the states and this will help to offer higher margin for farmers and competitive price for consumers.
