State Public Health Engineering (PHE) minister Subrata Mukherjee said "The government will spend close to Rs 8,000 crore for piped water supply to the rural areas which will benefit nearly 30 lakh villagers."
Speaking to reporters within the Assembly premises, he said the funds for the project had been provided by the West Bengal government, Centre, World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB) and JICA of Japan.
The minister said the government had also drawn up a vision for 2020 by which, each rural household would get 70 litres of water on a daily basis.
