The structure will come up in the Rabindra Sadan complex.
"Our government will erect a minaret in memory of the language martyrs within the premises of Rabindra Sadan auditorium in the city," West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee told a programme to commemorate the February 21 International Language Day here today.
Banerjee remembered that Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore in the national anthem had mentioned of several languages.
"We love and respect all mother tongues. This we have learnt from Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore who made a mention of so many languages in the national anthem penned by him," she said.
Bangladesh celebrates February 21 as national day to commemorate protests and sacrifices to protect 'Bengali' as the national language during Bengali Language Movement of 1952.
