A truck driver hailing from West Bengal was abducted by unidentified persons at Nangdolbari in lower Assam's Chirang district, official sources said today.
The driver identified as Mohidul Sheikh (36), a resident of Mahendrapur in Murshidabad district of West Bengal, was kidnapped near Garubhasa under Sidli police station last night.
Wasikul Ali (23), resident of Raghunathpur in the same district of Bengal and cleaner of the truck, said when they were coming back from Shantipur in Chirang after unloading rice brought from West Bengal, three motor-cycle borne masked men overtook their vehicle and stopped it on the road.
The three forcefully took away the driver from the truck leaving the cleaner, the sources said quoting him.
The police launched a search operation in Garubhasa and its surrounding areas to rescue the driver.
