Bengali actor Ramen Roy Chowdhury, who had acted in memorable films such as 'Sobuj Dwiper Raja' and 'Banchharamer Bagan', died here on Tuesday.
Roy Chowdhury, who was suffering from cancer and kidney ailments, died at his residence at 5 am at the age of 74, his family said.
He had been discharged from hospital a few days back.
Roy Chowdhury, who was a popular actor in both television serials and films, left behind his son and daughter.
He had worked with directors like Goutam Ghose and Tapan Sinha and known for his realistic portrayals.
Besides Tapan Sinha directed 'Sobuj Dwiper Raja' (1979) and 'Banchharamer Bagan' (1980), Roy Chowdhury acted in 'Abar Aranye' (2003) directed by Goutam Ghose.
Roy Chowdhury was also known as a theatre actor and a familiar face in 'jatra' - folk theatre of West Bengal.
