Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) Wednesday said it has mandated the factories and business arm of EPC major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to construct the terminal 2 (T2) at a project cost of Rs 3,036 crore.
Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) of the USA, the 255,000 sqm phase-1 of the new terminal once completed will scale up the airport's existing capacity by 25 million passengers per annum (MPPA), BIAL said in a release.
This phase is scheduled to be completed by March 31, 2021, it added.
The scope of work includes design, engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of T2, including the integration of services and utilities with the existing services and utilities along with the airport's systems, support facilities and buildings, said BIAL.
L&T Construction is currently also constructing the new south parallel runway (NSPR), apron and other auxiliary buildings at the Bengaluru airport.
BIAL has worked with L&T Construction in the past and "we believe that they have both the ability as well as the expertise to deliver a project as complex as T2," said Hari Marar, managing director and chief executive officer, BIAL.

The airport operator had invited global expression of interest for the construction of the first phase of T2 in May.
Canadian NRI Prem Watsa-owned Fairfax holds 54 per cent and Siemens Projects Ventures 20 per cent in BIAL, the joint venture that runs the Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport.
Of the remaining 26 per cent, Karnataka government and the Airports Authority of India hold 13 per cent each.
"Our association with BIAL has been long and mutually extremely beneficial. We are confident of delivering this demanding mandate to the complete satisfaction of our customer," said S N Subrahmanyan, managing director and chief executive, Larsen & Toubro.
The airport handled 26.91 million passengers in the previous fiscal year.
