A Bengaluru-based music artist has recomposed a Michael Jackson song as a tribute to the December 2012 Delhi gangrape victim.
The song called "Man in the Mirror," originally sung by the King of Pop in 1987, has now been recomposed by Pawan Kumar or "J" as a tribute to the 23-year-old Delhi braveheart, whose brutal rape and subsequent death shook the nation.
Kumar today released the first official Michael Jackson cover of the song from India and dedicated it to the para-medical student.
"I wanted to convey my anger over the incident. When I heard this song I really felt that it had a great connection with my thinking. Through this song, I pay my tribute to Nirbhaya," Kumar told reporters here.
Nirbhaya was the name given by a section of the media to the young woman, who was attacked and brutally gangraped by a group of men in a bus on December 16, 2012. She died around two weeks later.
Kumar, who studied music in Scotland, said he returned to India around the same time and given the public outcry that the incident generated, he thought of starting his career with a song in her memory.
"I am proud to start my career with a tribute to her. Her memories will continue to live on forever," he said.
