A three-day Northeast festival will be held in Bengaluru to showcase the diverse facets of the region.
During the festival, beginning November 6, the rich culture, heritage, fashion and food will be on display in the southern city which has a large Northeast population.
The decision has been taken for bringing the rest of India closer to Northeast, Union Minister for Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh said in a statement today.
Singh had a detailed meeting with representatives of 'Northeast India Welfare Society' who presented him a detailed programme book describing the highlights of the three-day event.
The NDA government at the Centre has planned to carry Northeast to different parts of the country and the Bengaluru event will be a step in this direction, Singh said.
"On one hand, while the rest of India needs to be familiarised and acquainted better with rich attributes of Northeast and its people, on the other hand the people of Northeast also need to be exposed to diversities that enrich India from North to South and from East to West, he said.
The festival, which is expected to be attended by former cricketer Rahul Dravid, will include cultural programmes, tourism displays, business summits, seminars, sports slots and arts and craft shows.
The participants will not only be from different parts of Northeast but also from different parts of the country so as to facilitate a healthy intermingling of different cultures at the important South Indian destination of Bengaluru which also currently happens to be a favourite professional and educational hub for youth from the entire subcontinent, he said.
