Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao awareness yatra flagged off from Ggn
Press Trust of India Gurgaon Ahead of the launch of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign, a yatra was flagged off from here by Haryana Minister Rao Narbir Singh with a view to spread awareness about the need to improve sex ratio in the district and the state.
The Haryana PWD (B&R) and Public Health Minister flagged off the awareness yatra from the premises of Swatantrata Senani Zila Parishadn Bhawan here.
Union and state ministers had yesterday flagged off similar awareness tours from 12 districts of Haryana.
Government's ambitious 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme' to improve the child sex ratio (CSR) will be launched from Panipat by Modi on January 22.
Addressing the gathering here, Singh said the PM was extremely concerned about the imbalance in sex-ratio and the low literacy rate among females in the country and had therefore, thought of launching the campaign to generate awareness about the issue among the public.
"The sex ratio can be improved by educating and empowering women. ...Everybody needs to contribute to this social cause to bring a revolution in the society," he said.
"No programme or policy can become successful without the participation of the masses, The government alone cannot achieve the target and a mass movement is necessary for bringing a social awakening," he said as he appealed to the people of Gurgaon to to attend the campaign's inauguration ceremony in Panipat on January 22.
The 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign would be implemented in 100 districts of the country, out of which 12 districts of Haryana with the lowest sex ratio have been selected. These are Mahendergarh, Jhajjar, Rewari, Sonepat, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Rohtak, Karnal, Yamuna Nagar, Kaithal, Bhiwani and Panipat.
