Expressing concern over female foeticide cases, Justice Manohar while addressing a two-day state level woman lawyers' conference here last evening said though there is a law to stop such incidents, but it is the society which needs to prevent such crimes.
Citing the example of a village in Rajasthan where reportedly no girl child has been born in the last 15 years, she expressed concern over the harassment of women in the country in the name of dowry and other reasons.
As per a national crime bureau report, 2,28,650 women faced atrocities in their families last year, Justice Manohar said, adding that women conferences are important to throw light on these issues.
Around 800 women lawyers, including members of the All India Federation of Women lawyers, participated in the event.
