Pinning hopes on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasabha (BGM) today demand a special employment package for the youth of Gujjar and Bakkerwal communities besides a special recruitment drive for them in the security forces in the state.
"We demand employment package for the youth of Gujjar and Bakkerwal communities besides a special recruitment drive for them in the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir", BGM state president, Eshfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal said while addressing a meeting here today.
"The youth of these communities are not much educated as they reside along the borders and in far-flung and inaccessible areas", Poswal said and demanded, "In view of this they need special attention and encouragement".
"We express hope that the Prime Minister during his upcoming visit to the Jammu and Kashmir is expected to announce some welfare measures and special package that could provide jobs to the youth of the Gujjar and Bakkeral communities of Jammu and Kashmir", Poswal said.
Poswal said that Gujjars and Bakkerwals of Jammu and Kashmir have lot of hopes from Modi in view of his track record, and particularly after the concern he expressed towards these communities during his election rallies at Jammu.
He claimed, "The government despite repeated requests and reminders, failed to implement the Tribal Sub Plan in the state in proportionate to the population of these tribal communities".
"Due to this, these communities were deprived of the benefits and as such continue to be backward," he said.
"The previous government also failed to properly implement other welfare schemes meant for these communities thus depriving them of the benefits as envisaged under various schemes," he further alleged.
