The Bhaderwah-Doda National Highway, connecting the region with the rest of Jammu and Kashmir, was closed this morning after massive landslides triggered due to heavy rainfall hit the road.
The landslide which took place at Bhala, 15 kms from the Doda town, blocked the national highway, a traffic police officer said.
He said the highway was thrown open yesterday after remaining closed for several hours due to landslides and shooting stones at Bhala on Doda-Bhaderwah stretch.
Around 200 passenger vehicles, LMVs and those carrying essential commodities got stranded on both sides of the damaged stretch, he said.
"The highway was closed at 3:30 AM due to landslide and shooting stones near Bhala 15 km from Doda. The machines have reached the spot and restoration work is going on since early morning. Hopefully the road will be cleared during the day," traffic police officer Shabir Ahmed said.
He said shooting stones and sliding of mud was hampering the restoration work.
