A senior BJP leader today welcomed RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's call for a review of the reservation policy and condemned the CPI(M) for demanding reservation in private sector jobs as well.
"I had demanded a review of the reservation policy way back in 2005 at a public forum in Ranchi. I am happy that Mohan Bhagwat ji has also raised the issue now and I welcome it," BJP leader Prem Kataruka said in a statement here.
"The current reservation policy has increased quantitatively but a review is necessary to think how to increase quality-wise too. So, time has come for political parties to think over a review of the reservation policy based on economic criteria," the former Jharkhand unit spokesman said here.
Appreciating Bhagwat seeking review of the policy on the ground that it has been used for political ends, Kataruka criticised CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury's demand for a special Parliament session to discuss extending reservation policy in the private sector alleging that the demand suggested vote bank politics.
"Yechury's demand is his party's vote bank politics. Yechury should think how the nation gets quality hands with reservation based on economic criteria along with quantity," he said.
Yechury had yesterday demanded convening of a special session of the Parliament to discuss Dalit issues, including reservation in private sector jobs and special plans for the community.
