Amid the ongoing tussle between Opposition BJP and the ruling Congress in Uttarakhand over his report, former IAS officer K R Bhati today resigned as the head of the Commission which was probing a slew of alleged scams during the previous BJP government in the state.
K R Bhati, who headed the one man panel looking into more than half-a-dozen alleged scams during the previous BJP government in the state, submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna who has accepted it, highly-placed official sources said here this evening.
Bhati has handed over charge of the probe commission to retired IAS officer Sushil Chandra Tripath, the sources said.
However, it is not yet clear on what grounds Bhati has submitted his resignation to the Chief Minister, they said.
A slanging match broke out between the BJP and the ruling Congress in the state ever since Bhati Commission's report on irregularities in Uttarakhand Tarai and Seed Development Corporation (TDC) was tabled in the state Assembly during its just concluded Budget session.
The Bahuguna government has filed an FIR against unnamed persons recently on the basis of Bhati commission's report on alleged irregularities in TDC during BJP rule while the saffron party has termed the report as a "pack of lies" prepared under the pressure of Bahuguna government to malign the party's stint at the helm.
