Having delivered power-packed performances in back-to-back films of critical acclaim, from Shabdo to Ebar Shabor, actor Ritwik Chakroborty says in upcoming Bheetu he was stricken by the fear factor manifested in the film.
"The character of the protagonist in Bheetu reflects the fear-stricken self none of us can hide as it lurks within us the more we tend to make adjustments in some way or the other for living securely in this society," the award winner 'Bakita Byaktigato' actor told PTI here.
Ritwik, who did not give word to friend-film maker Utsav Mukherjee before understanding the whole script and his character, said his seconding scripts of new or debutant directors are not borne out of any social commitment.
"It is more of my own appetite as an actor. The works which I find interesting, I feel the hunger within, I agree," he said adding his character in Bheetu, the common man, has grey shades.
About any shades of similarity between his previous portrayals in Ebar Shabor as an informer-turned perpetrator and the one in Bheetu, Ritwik said any likelihood can be tenuous.
"The only thing common is both are stricken by a fear psyche and both films talk about the contemporary society. Can you escape the fear factor living in this society where you are at the mercy of someone or the other everywhere you go," he said.
Director Utsav Mukherjee, having been part of many important small screen projects and debuting for the second time in feature with the social commentary, said, with the trail blazed by Srijit Mukherjee, Kaushik Ganguly, Anik Dutta and the likes, he got the courage to direct a sepia-tinted film exploring the alleys of human psyche.
"Bheetu is not a thriller, it is more of a social commentary about our inherent fear which can't be hidden however hard we may try."
Ritwik biopic Meghe Dhaka Tara director Kamaleswar Mukherjee, in an important role in this film, said there has been a paradigm shift in the audience behavior which augurs well for Bengali cinema.
"Bheetu talks about the very primal fear that lurks deep within us," Kamaleswar, having delivered blockbuster Chander Pahar starring Dev, said.
Bheetu, which also starred Sudipta Chakroborty and Parno Mitra, two sensible actors in realistic genre of films, will be released next month.
