The lone Legislative Council seat fell vacant after the resignation of RJD MLC Gulam Gaus who later switched over to the ruling JD(U) and unsuccessfully contested from the Madhubani parliamentary seat on its ticket.
In a fast-paced political development in Bihar after the general elections, erstwhile bitter rivals JD(U) and RJD joined forces to unitedly take on the BJP and under this arrangement the vacant Legislative Council seat went to the RJD which nominated Bhola Yadav as its candidate.
