Each special team, comprising a woman police and two male cops, would be deployed at crowded places such as parks, theatres, shopping complexes and bus stands, a senior police officer said.

The decision to form special teams to curb eve-teasing came after the police decided to deploy women personnel in police control room (PCR) van for city patrolling.

The move came in view of growing crime against women, parcitularly after alleged gangrape of a dancer girl last week and molestation of another in an auto-rickshaw here on Sunday night.

The city police also launched awarness programme here today with groups going round the public places and sensitising working women and school, college going girls.

"We are also sensitising drivers and other staff of public transport vehicles. The telephone numbers of police helpline is being pasted in all buses, auto-rickshaws and other public transport vehicles," a police officer said.

"Any woman facing trouble while travelling in bus or auto-rickshaws can call police in our toll free number. Police is alert to immediately respond," Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Bhubaneswar, Nitinjit Singh said.

This apart, the police also decided to introduce a 'beat' patrolling system from January-end. "We have already conducted a trial run and will introduce it after receiving auxiliary force to run the show in January," Singh said.

The city would be divided into 96 beats, each to be manned by designated police personnel. Apart from routine patrolling by PCR vans, beat police personnel would undertake foot as well as bike patrolling round the clock. Each beat would be provided with a power bike for patrolling, he said.
