Bhunder files nomination for RS from Punjab

SAD leader Balwinder Singh Bhunder today filed his nomination papers for Rajya Sabha polls from Punjab.
Bhunder, SAD General Secretary and sitting MP, submitted his nomination for the third term in the Rajya Sabha to Punjab Assembly Secretary Shashi Lakhanpal Mishra, who is the returning officer, in the presence of SAD President and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, a spokesperson said here.
MP Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, Cabinet Ministers Sikander Singh Maluka and Surjit Singh Rakhra, former minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur, CPS Virsa Singh Valtoha and MLA Ravinder Singh Brahmpura were also present.
Bhunder, who was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1998 to 2002 and joined again in July 2010, said he was thankful to God, his party, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and the SAD president for expressing faith on him.
He said he would continue to raise party's voice and issues for the welfare of state in the Upper House.
Two Rajya Sabha seats from Punjab will fall vacant on July 4 after the terms of Ambika Soni (Congress) and Bhunder end, an election office spokesperson said here.
The election to the seats will be held on June 11, he said, adding the last date for filing nominations is fixed for May 31.
While the scrutiny of the nominations will be held on June 1, the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is on June 3.
