Considered as an authority on Library Science in the country, Govi was associated with the National Library for long before retiring as its Bibliography Editor.
Govi (85), who died yesterday, was keeping indifferent health for some time. He is survived by wife Pushpaveni, who also retired from the National Library as an Information Officer, and two children.
Govi also documented Kerala's literary heritage by painstakingly compiling 10-volume "Malayala Granthasoochi", a comprehensive index of books published in the language up to 1995.
After working as District Librarian under Malabar Library Authority from 1952 to 1956, he joined as librarian at the Kolkata National Library in 1956 and retired in 1987.
Govi documented all Malayalam publications.
Based on his years of research Govi wrote a book on the history of printing in Malayalam and also published a book on the public library movement worldwide.
