Celebrated percussionist Bickram Ghosh today asked health and beauty clinics to go for music therapy for curing certain ailments, which are symptomatic of urban life.
"As it is tracks may be played in all such places, but I am referring to music therapy where the compositions have to be chosen keeping in mind the therapeutic value," the rhythmscape man told PTI at an anti-Obesity event.
The fusion-beat wizard, who goes for morning walks every day, said "Music is a huge stress-buster which also results in symptoms like obesity."
"However, if you are a performer, music is like nirvana for you which you can attain by 'sadhana'," Bickram said on the sidelines of an anti-Obesity 'Orange Pledge' programme by VLCC, the leading fitness chain in the country.
"I had gained weight at one point of time. I was having symptoms. But I got over it as music is my mantra. I shed 20 kilos 15 years back and even I shed weight two months back. Being fit entails not letting the stress get over you," he said.
Bickram, as the icon for the young generation for his contemporary, youthful image and aesthetic artistic skills, can serve as the global advocate for anti-obesity and make people get out of their comfort zones, which is part of our orange pledge campaign in SAARC country outlets and middle-east, a VLCC Health Care spokesperson said.
According to a National Family Health Survey (NFHS) obesity is more acute among well-educated, urban homemaker women and more prevalent in Punjab, Delhi and also in Kerala.
