Big B sings national anthem for 'Shamitabh' at Tagore home

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has sung the national anthem, sans any accompanying music, for his forthcoming film 'Shamitabh' and it was shot today at the Jorasanko Thakurbari here, the ancestral home of Rabindranath Tagore, who penned the song.
Though the R Balki-directed film is slated to be released on February 6, the decision to include the national anthem in the movie was taken only a couple of days ago.
"We went to music director Adesh Srivastava's studio in Mumbai who felt it (the anthem) does not require any music," Bachchan told reporters at the press launch of the film here.
The song has been recorded in Mumbai, and Balki wanted to shoot it at Shantiniketan but it has been done at Jorasanko because of lack of time.

As "Rabindranath Tagore wrote the song, we decided that why don't we shoot it where Gurudev was born. Shoojit Sircar has shot the song today at Jorasanko. And we are trying to release the song on January 26," he said.
Though the legendary actor has sung several songs earlier for films, he said he was proud to have sing this one.

Describing Tagore's ancestral home as an "amazing monument" Bachchan said, "It's for the first time I have been there and such an iconic place and I doubt perhaps anybody has ever sang the national anthem there. I feel so proud."

"I don't know whether much people outside Bengal have seen it or much people outside Bengal know about it. It's very quiet there and you can almost feel the presence of Rabindranath Tagore." he said.
"It's very interesting to see the painting Gurudev had painted in the later part of his life... The great history you see in the pictures he (Rabindranath) meeting the freedom fighters, his noble award on the walls," he said.
