Bihar govt allocates money for farm sufficiency

A decision to this effect was taken by the state cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar here.

Under the ambitious agriculture road map for five years, the state cabinet sanctioned the amount for the first year with thrust on storage of foodgrains, organic farming, green fertiliser, horticulture and other related agriculture components for the running financial year, state cabinet coordination department principal secretary Ravikant said after the cabinet meeting.

The state government had formulated an agriculture roadmap to be implement in next five years since April 1, 2012 with thrust on increasing the income of farmers, boosting agriculture production and productivity, production of foodgrain to make Bihar self-sufficient in the field of agriculture.

The cabinet also sanctioned Rs 52.72 crore for an action plan on changes in the weather.

The cabinet allocated a revolving fund of Rs 200 crore for wheat procurement by State Food Corporation during the current Rabi marketing season for 2012-13, Ravikant said.
