Strict action would be taken against the OMCs and gas agencies if they failed to clear the backlog of LPG cylinders in Bihar in the next seven days, state Food and Consumer Protection Minister Shyam Rajak told their representatives after a review meeting.

The state government, he said, was committed to protecting the rights of about 40 lakh cooking gas consumers.

On the gas agencies insisting that consumers fill Know Your Customer (KYC) forms before providing them refills, the minister said only those consumers having multiple connections were required to fill the forms till October 31. The remaining customers have time up to March 31 to do so, he added.

Meanwhile, sleuths of Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Bihar police seized 450 empty LPG cylinders and arrested three persons in this connection from here.

Inspector General of Police, EOW, Praveen Vashistha said a complaint was received about black marketing of LPG ylinders by an agency of Indane company and raids were carried out at its premises and the empty cylinders seized.

An investigation was on in the agency's claim that the cylinders were brought from Ranchi, he said.
