The Bihar government has constituted a task force to prepare a sports policy for the state and a website has been launched to solicit people's suggestions on the matter, Art, Culture and Youth Department Minister Krishna Kumar Rishi told the Assembly today.
Accusing the erstwhile RJD regime of destroying the careers of sports enthusiasts in the state, the minister said cricketers from Bihar have been playing for Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand teams until recently.
The Supreme Court's judgment in January, allowing the cricketers of Bihar to play Ranji trophy matches, is a welcome move, he said, adding that process to revamp Moinul Haque Stadium is underway and the state will sign a memorandum of understanding with Bihar Cricket Association soon.
Rishi, while replying to a debate on his department's budgetary allocation, said that the government has plans to construct a stadium in every block of the state.
"More than 100 stadiums have been built in the state while the construction work for another 51 will start in next two months. A 'Khel Bhawan' equipped with all necessary facilities will be built in every district," he said.
The department today secured a budget of Rs 139.11 crore for 2018-19 through a voice vote in the House. The RJD members, however, staged a walkout from the Assembly, expressing dissatisfaction with the government's reply.
