A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar asked officials of the commercial taxes department to make a prompt enquiry into the reasons that led to a price hike in every litre of Rs 1.70 in diesel, Rs 1.07 in petrol, 0.79 paise in kerosene and Rs 9.50 per LPG cylinder.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said despite repeated requests, the local representatives of the oil marketing companies were unable to explain the reasons for the recent price hike.

Information would be sought within five days by writing letters to the petroleum ministry and different oil marketing companies, sources said.
