Bihar Governor Lalji Tandon and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today condoled the death of veteran journalist Kuldip Nayar.
In his condolence message, Tandon said Nayar's demise was an "irreparable loss to the world of journalism, culture and society" and recalled the scribe's "life-long commitment to preserving national integrity, social harmony and democratic values".
Kumar said the veteran journalist's death was a loss to the "literary, social and political fields" and recalled Nayar's fearless writings which landed him in jail during the Emergency but, later, also earned him laurels like nomination to the Rajya Sabha.
Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi also mourned the death of Nayar, calling him "the Bhishm Pitamah of journalism" who "strongly opposed the authoritarianism of Indira Gandhi".
RJD supremo Lalu Prasad also expressed grief over the death of Nayar, the news of which was conveyed to him in Mumbai by party general secretary and confidant Bhola Yadav.
