The state assembly today passed a bill paving the way for filling vacant teaching posts in various universities amid din by opposition members over the recent Supreme Court order on the SC/ST Act.
The Bihar State University Service Commission (Amendment) Bill 2018 was passed with voice vote in the state assembly.
Education Minister Krishnandan Prasad Verma, who introduced the bill, said that with the passage of the bill, Bihar Public Service Commission will now complete the ongoing process to fill up the vacant teaching posts in various universities of the state.
Stating that BPSC, at present, is carrying out the exercise to fill up the teaching posts in various universities of the state, Verma said that the Bihar State University Service Commission has issued an advertisement to fill up the 3364 posts of Assistant Professors in various universities.
So far, the Commission has submitted its recommendations to fill up 1354 posts in 11 subjects, he said adding that appointment process has also been completed in these subjects.
BPSC has been asked to send its recommendations to fill up the teaching posts in all other important subjects at the earliest, the minister said amid din by opposition RJD and Congress members over SC/ST Act issue.

As the House met after the lunch recess at 2 pm, deputy leader of the ruling JD(U) Shyam Rajak demanded that House should pass a resolution to place the SC/ST Act in 9th schedule of the Constitution in order to insulate it from being challenged in courts.
Rajak raised the demand amid sloganeering against Union and state governments by RJD and Congress members on the issue.
RJD and Congress members trooped into the well and raised anti-governments- both centre and state- slogans during the proceedings that lasted barely 15 minutes.
Speaker Vijay Kumar Choudhary adjourned the House till tomorrow at 11 am.
