Bihar: Japanese Encephalitis, AES claim lives of 29 children

While AES claimed seven lives, Japanese Encephalitis has accounted for two deaths in Anugrah Narayan Medical College and Hospital in Gaya, Medical Superintendent of the hospital Sitaram Singh said.

Six patients were undergoing treatment with symptoms of AES in the hospital, he said.

In Muzaffarpur's Kejriwal hospital, 20 children died due to AES, while 35 others are undergoing treatment for the same disease, its administrator B B Giri said.

Meanwhile, state unit RJD president Ramchandra Purve flayed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his alleged mishandling of the AES outbreak and said his party would send two teams to Gaya and Muzaffarpur to find out the facts.

RJD supremo Lalu Prasad visited the Patna Medical College Hospital to inspect facilities for AES patients and scolded the doctors for the unhygienic condition in the premier hospital.
