The state Cabinet today convened the Winter Session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly and the Bihar Legislative Council from December 19 to 26.
This will be the 178th session of the state legislature.
"The state Cabinet held a meeting and decided to convene the Winter Session of state legislature from December 19 to 26. The session will be functional on five days, barring Saturday and Sunday," said B Pradhan, Principal Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat, while talking to media persons.
The Winter Session is expected to see serious debates on medicine scam in the state and state government's performance on several issues like law and order and education.
It will also be interesting to watch Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi as he had recently been in the throes of several controversies generated by his comments on corruption, drinking, castes, tribals, politics and functioning of the government, among others. One of his prominent one was his "chopping-off the hands of erring doctors" comment.
The previous session or the Monsoon Session of the state legislature had witnessed uproarious scenes on several days due to straight confrontation between the jubilant BJP after the thumping Lok Sabha polls victory and the ruling JD(U) over issues like police firing, medicine scam, scholarships for students belonging to SC, ST and backward castes, irrigation and corruption.
The Assembly and the Council were adjourned several times during the session over the issues and the matters came to a head after BJP and JD(U) legislators in the Council scuffled with each other and almost came to blows. It was finally solved with the Chairman of the Council convening an all-party meet.
