The officer in-charge of a police station in Bihar's Muzzafarpur district was arrested for consuming liquor despite the total prohibition in force in the state.
Town Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashish Anand said an excise department team visited Kazi Mohammadpur police station today following complaints received late last night.
The team found the officer-in-charge Rameshwar Singh in an inebriated state and tried to catch him. There was pushing and shoving and Singh even tried to run away when he was being taken for medical test to ascertain that he had consumed liquor, he said.
Other policemen of the police station gave him a hot chase and nabbed him, Anand added.
The arrest of the OC came a day after the president of Bihar Police Mens Association Nirmal Singh and another official of the association Shamsher Khan were caught in Patna from the police line on charge of liquor consumption.
Total prohibition is in force in Bihar since April last year.
