"Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) will procure 12 lakh metric tonnes wheat, while State Food Corporation (SFC) will procure the remaining quantity," Food and Consumer Protection Minister Shyam Rajak said.

Steps have been taken to ensure transparency in wheat procurement and the procuring agencies have been asked to purchase the produce directly from the farmers by making payment through account payee cheques, he said.

The wheat procurement process will be completed by July 31, Rajak said, adding SFC will act as the nodal agency for the purpose with PACS being the primary procurer, Rajak said.

In the panchayats where PACS does not exist, the wheat procurement will be carried out by SFC through its procuring centres, he said, adding that SFC will set up a minimum of one and maximum of three procurement centres for the purpose.

The state is likely to produce 63.08 lakh tonnes wheat during this rabi season, he said.

The Centre has fixed Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 1285 per quintal for wheat procurement, Rajak said.
