A woman, whose 19-year-old son was allegedly shot dead by Delhi cops while performing stunts on a bike, has moved the High Court seeking a probe against three policemen by an independent agency like CVC alleging that the departmental inquiry initiated against them was an "eyewash".
The application was moved by the youth's mother before a bench of Justice V P Vaish, saying a neutral agency like the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) should be appointed for carrying out a "fair, unjust and unbiased inquiry" in such a "gruesome crime".
Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for the petitioner, said that during the departmental inquiry proceedings, the three policemen had deposed that there was nothing wrong in their action and tried to justify it.
"Independent agency like CVC should be entrusted with the job of conducting disciplinary inquiry against the policemen as fairness cannot be expected from the departmental inquiry being carried out by the Delhi Police," Bhushan said.
The court asked Delhi Police Standing Counsel Rahul Mehra to file a status report and posted the matter for October 26.
The woman, in her plea, also alleged that the FIR registered against one of the three cops against whom probe was initiated, created doubt about the fairness of the inquiry initiated by police "which seems nothing more than eyewash."
In the wee hours of July 28, 2013, Karan Pandey was killed when a bullet was fired by the police in an attempt to stop 150 bikers from performing risky stunts opposite Le Meridian hotel here.
The police had claimed that to control them, bullet was fired to puncture the tyre which hit Pandey who later expired in a hospital here.
