Murray, 65, said the movie would be "a Japanese story," reported Aceshowbiz.
"...I'm playing a dog. He's doing another, like a stop motion animated kind of comedy sort of like 'The Fantastic Mr Fox'," Murray said.
The actor added he is "very excited" to be involved in the project.
Murray will star alongside Jeff Goldblum, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton and Bob Balaban, who will lend their voice to a pack of dogs.
The untitled movie marks the third time that Goldblum has worked with Anderson, following "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel". Official release date has yet to be announced, but the movie is expected to arrive in US theatres in 2017.
