A bill on land rights to enclave dwellers of Cooch Behar will be placed during the brief winter session of West Bengal Legislative Assembly beginning Friday, Speaker Biman Banerjee said.

An amendment bill on National University of Juridical Sciences, will also be discussed during the session, which will continue till November 29, the speaker told PTI.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had recently said that the government was working hard to give beneficiaries of the enclaves their due and had asked the Cooch Behar district officials to expedite the process of handing over land documents to the enclave dwellers.

If necessary, an ordinance would be issued to speed up the process, she had said.

Bangladesh and India had exchanged 162 "adversely held" enclaves on Aug 1, 2015, ending one of the world's most complex border disputes that had lingered for seven decades since Independence.

In Cooch Behar 111 Indian enclaves, spread across 17,160 acres, became a part of Bangladesh territory and 51 Bangladeshi enclaves, comprising 7,110 acres, joined India.

The enclave residents were allowed to either reside at their present location or move to the other country.
