The bill on the proposed university, named as Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research, was introduced by Health Minister Damodar Rout and was passed unanimously just before the House was adjourned sine die.
Introducing the bill, Rout said that the VSS Medical College and Hospital, Burla set up in 1959 was the only medical institution in western Odisha which catered to the need of 18 revenue districts including 12 in Odisha, four in Chhattishgarh and two in Jharkhand.
