Gorkha Janmukti Morcha president Bimal Gurung today renewed the Gorkhaland demand for Darjeeling and said it was necessary for the national identity and security of Gorkhas in the country.
The decision to support the BJP for the Darjeeling Lok Sabha seat was a result of the need for national identity and security of Gorkhas, Gurung said here.
Stating that the BJP had created three new states during its rule and also played a significant role in the creation of Telangana, he said "It is highly likely that the next government at the Centre will be that of the BJP and the prospects for Gorkhaland are bright."
Urging the people to vote for BJP candidate S S Ahluwalia, the GJM chief said, "Had I been an opportunist I would have been hobnobbing with the TMC now. We are ready to face all the obstructions that come in the way to Gorkhaland."
Gurung accused the Mamata Banerjee government of conspiring against the hill people and the GJM and said "The TMC government withdrew my security and sent Subash Ghisingh (rival GNLF chief) to the hills under tight security. There is a deep conspiracy in this.
