Birju Maharaj was awarded DLitt (honoris causa) at the convocation for his contribution to classic dance. Bengali poet Joy Goswami was also given a DLitt along with him.
Eminent physicist and fellow of Royal Society T V Ramakrishnan and London-based physician Dr Khalid Hameed were honoured with DSc (honoris causa) during the occasion.
Ramakrishnan, however, was not present in person to collect the honour due to the Chennai floods.
During the function, West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi praised University Vice Chancellor Sugata Marjit saying peace and tranquillity has returned to the campus once again.
