He has asked Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju to correct the error, the veteran leader said.
He saw the impressive portrait in the luggage belt area of the airport during his recent visit to Mumbai and noticed that it mentions king Shivaji's year of birth as 1627 instead of 1630, Naik said.
"I met Raju in Delhi yesterday and requested him to correct the birth year. He assured me that he will look into it," Naik told PTI over phone from Delhi, where he is attending Governors' Conference.
He had written to the minister on the issue in July and again in September, he said.
Naik recalled that he had initiated a campaign demanding naming of the Mumbai airport after king Shivaji "at a time when there was talk that it should be named after (Jawaharlal) Nehru".
"I had then said that Nehru has the Mumbai port named after him, so the Mumbai airport should be named after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj," Naik said.
