Biting cold continues to sweep Pb, Har; flights delayed

Biting cold wave conditions today continued to sweep several parts of Punjab and Haryana where day temperatures settled much below the normal.
Fog also continued to affect normal life at many places in the two states. Rail and air traffic was hit in the region where a few flights operating from Chandigarh were delayed today due to bad weather conditions, an official at the Chandigarh Airport, said.
Intense chill has gripped the region as the maximum temperatures have plummeted several notches below normal.
The maximum temperature in Chandigarh yesterday was recorded at 9.9 degrees Celsius, eleven notches below normal, a MeT department report said.
However, there was an increase in the minimum temperature at Chandigarh today, with the low settling at 8.4 deg C, three degrees above normal.
The maximum temperature yesterday at several places in the two states including Ambala, Hisar, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala, settled between 10-15 degrees Celsius, much below the normal level.

The minimum temperatures dropped at some places today including at Narnaul, which was the coldest place in the two states at 3.5 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal.
Karnal's low settled at 4.2 degrees Celsius, down three notches, while Hisar's low was recorded at 5.4 degrees Celsius, down by two notches and Ambala's minimum temperature was recorded at 7.5 degrees Celsius.
Amritsar's low settled at 5.8 degrees Celsius, two notches up, while the minimum temperatures at Patiala and Ludhiana were recorded at 6 and 7.8 degrees Celsius.
