The high altitude tribal areas and mountain passes reeled under arctic conditions with mercury staying 10 to 19 degrees Celsius below freezing point and Keylong and Kalpa in tribal Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur districts recorded a low of minus 8.5 and minus 3.3 degrees Celsius.
The key tourist resort of Manali shivered at minus 2.2 degrees Celsius while Solan recorded a low of 1.2 degrees Celsius, followed by 1.4 degrees Celsius in Sundernagar and Dalhousie, 1.5 degrees Celsius in Shimla, 1.8 degrees Celsius in Bhuntar, 2.2 degrees Celsius in Palampur, 4.2 degrees Celsius in Dharamshala, 4.7 degrees Celsius in Nahan and 5.0 degrees Celsius in Una.
The MeT office here has predicted dryweather in lower and mid hills for next six days upto January 31 and rains or snow at isolated places in higher hills on January 29 and 30 as a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect western Himalayan region from January 28 onwards.
The day temperatures also dropped marginally and Una was hottest in the region with a high of 20.2 degrees Celsius, followed by 18.5 degrees Celsius in Bhuntar, 18.3 degrees Celsius in Sundernagar, 17.2 degrees Celsius in Nahan, 16.5 degrees Celsius in Solan, 13.6 degrees Dharamshala, 11.8 degrees Celsius in Shimla, 9.4 degrees Celsius in Kalpa, 6.9 degrees Celsius in Dalhousie.
