Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP and scion of Nayagarh royal family in Odisha Hemendra Chandra Singh died here early today.
Singh (46) was admitted to a private hospital on Saturday last following chest pain and breathing difficulty. His condition turned critical yesterday and he breathed his last in the wee hours today, his family said.
A member of Lok Sabha from Kandhamal constituency, Singh is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son.
He had quit Congress in February this year and joined the BJD. He won the Kandhamal Lok Sabha seat on a BJD ticket in the general elections held in April.
Singh, who studied in Rajkumar College in Raipur, was an active Congress leader and headed the Nayagarh district unit of the party before joining the BJD ahead of the general elections.
People from different walks of life including political leaders, distinguished persons and his admirers have condoled Singh's death.
