The ruling BJD today staged a rally here to protest the Centre's reduction of kerosene quota to the state.
"We demand the Centre to restore kerosene quota and supply adequate quantities for the benefit of the poor people" Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare minister Sanjay Dasburam said while addressing the rally here.
The senior BJD leader alleged that the Central government has reduced 25 percent of the allocation of the kerosene to the state.
The party submitted a memorandum to President Pranab Mukharjee through the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) southern division here. The party would also stage similar agitation before the RDC office, western division in Sambalpur on Wednesday.
Several ruling party MLAs from Ganjam district and party functionaries, including state's woman and child welfare minister Usha Devi participated in the agitation.
Reacting to the BJD's rally, BJP leader Bibhuti Jena, claimed that the Centre reduced the kerosene quota owing to large scale black marketing of the fuel. The poor people are getting the fuel as they were getting, he argued.
