Lashing out at BJP for the clash outside Congress headquarters here, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that BJP was a "party of killers" and trying to capture power in the state by "goondagiri" (vandalism).
"BJP has lost people's trust. They are trying to come to power by goondagiri. They want to fight the next election (in Assam) on the basis of goondaraj. We have to stop them and we will not allow them," Gogoi told a press conference here.
"BJP is a party of killers. They are not in power and this is their goondagiri now. What will happen if they come to power?," he said.
The Chief Minister also expressed unhappiness over the police failure to prevent yesterday's clash outside Rajiv Bhavan, while announcing an inquiry by Additional Chief Secretary V B Pyarelal into the incident.
Gogoi said the "attack" on the Congress office by BJP was a "pre-planned" one and claimed that the government had reports of two BJP leaders, including Himanta Biswa Sarma instigating party workers.
"It was a brutal attack. Such an incident has never happened in the history of Assam politics. They (BJP) workers came with sticks and blades which were hidden in the sticks of the placards.

"We have got reports of Himanta's involvement in instigating. He is the right hand man of BJP. I will not name the other person. I have ordered an inquiry by Additional Chief Secretary V B Pyarelal. I will take action accordingly," he said.
About state police's handling of the situation yesterday
at Rajiv Bhavan, Gogoi said "I am not happy with my own police. How could this happen? How could a party office in the middle of the city be attacked? The inquiry will see if there was any lapse on anybody's part."
Tear gas shells were burst by police yesterday when BJP supporters protested in front of the Congress office and attacked the ruling party workers, who too retaliated leading to injuries on both sides.
BJP workers were protesting against Congress leader Nilamani Sendeka's comment at a public meeting on Sunday at Nalbari against Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Deka had later expressed regret and withdrew his comment, while Gogoi had said it was condemnable and "not Assamese culture".
The Congress party had also distanced itself from Sendeka's comment and condemned it.
