Accusing Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav of giving communal colour to the the lynching of a man over rumour that he had eaten beef, BJP today questioned the decision of the state police to send meat sample for forensic test instead of focusing on arresting the culprits.
The party wondered if the state administration's decision to send the meat for forensic test was made to give a communal slant to the raging row.
In a statement, BJP secretary Siddharth Nath Singh said, "Rather than shedding crocodile tears, Akhilesh Yadav should answer as to why his police wanted to do forensic test of meat sample when the issue should have been arresting the culprits of the most unfortunate and barbaric killing in Dadri.
"Was not his administration trying to give it a communal slant by ordering forensic test? What action does he propose to take against his Minister Azam Khan who ranted on communal lines from day one of the incident?" he asked.
Claiming that the arrest of a homeguard jawan was proof of "lawlessness" in the state being given a communal colour, Singh said it was unfortunate that Yadav had "not been able to deliver" on the mandate of good governance, and therefore was systematically "polarising" the people of the state before the 2017 Assembly elections.
50-year-old Iqlakh was beaten to death and his 22-year-old son Danish son was critically injured by a mob which barged into their house on Monday night following rumours that the family had consumed beef.
BJP's reaction came after the Chief Minister met Iqlakh's family and assured them of justice. Yadav today also dismissed criticism of his government with the assertion that his party will "never do politics" over such an incident.
