"We have fixed our eyes on becoming the world's leading political party soon by eclipsing the Communist Party of China (CPC) which has more than eight crore registered members," BJP national vice-president and co-incharge of the party's membership drive Dinesh Sharma told reporters here.
BJP has already got 3.25 crore registered members even as five crore more people have dialled its toll free number to become primary members, he said adding, the party expected to boost up the numbers by three times at the end of the drive.
Hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being the architect of the saffron party's growth across the country, he said BJP was not gunning to eclipse the CPC's figures and the party proposes to build a structure for long-term results for which registered members would be given proper training to ingrain with its ideology and programmes.
It was the Modi-government's performance on all fronts since May last year that people have got attracted to BJP's ideology and was joining it in bulk, the BJP leader said.
Senior BJP leaders, including its national president Amit Shah, would extensively tour different states over the next couple of months to provide a fillip to the ongoing membership drive, he added.
