An aggressive BJP today launched a blistering attack on the Delhi government on the opening day of the Monsoon session of the Assembly, accusing it of "total failure" in containing prices of onion, other vegetables and essential commodities and burdening people with high power tariff.
Immediately after House paid obituary references, Leader of Opposition V K Malhotra, raised the issue of skyrocketing prices of onion, vegetables and essential commodities and attacked the government for not being able to arrest the price rise.
Soon almost all BJP legislators started shouting slogans against the government and accused it of being "totally insensitive" towards problems of the people, saying it has been piling up pressure on common man by hiking power and water tariff. Most of the BJP MLAs came to House wearing onion and vegetable garlands, necklace made of green chillies and crown made from bitter gourd.
"The prices of onions and other vegetables have touched the roof. Prices of essential commodities have also gone up. But this government has not done anything to provide relief to the common man," Malhotra said.
As his demand for a discussion on price rise was turned down, all BJP MLAs created ruckus. Amid allegations and counter allegations between Congress and BJP legislators, Speaker Yoganand Shastri adjourned the House for half an hour.
Later, BJP MLAs took out a "march" inside the assembly complex protesting "insensitive attitude" of the city government towards the citizens reeling under high inflation.

"People of the city will teach them a lesson in the coming assembly polls. The government has totally failed in all fronts. The citizens are really fed up of the Sheila Dikshit dispensation," Malhotra said.
He also slammed the government for failing to facilitate any basic amenities in unauthorised colonies.
"The government betrayed the residents of unauthorised colonies. No development work has taken place in unauthorised colonies as promised by the Congress government," he said.
